Lune Aqueduct Cruise, Lancaster; via Barton Grange Garden Centre
Wednesday 5 June
Our first stop today will be at the winner of ‘Destination Garden centre of the year for 2017’, Barton Grange Garden Centre. It is set in beautiful countryside just outside Lancaster. If ever a garden centre had the ‘wow factor,’ this is it. With its stunning indoor displays, a superb all-weather plant area, a locally- sourced Farm Shop, a Cook Shop, fabulous food and – important for us – the Riverside Café and Willow Restaurant serving fresh, locally-sourced food we won’t know where to start! There will be a couple of hours here to eat and have a good look round before we board the coach for the 40 minutes journey to Lancaster for our cruise.
Timothy West and Prunella Scales were on the very same canal in November, on their TV canal boat series. Known as one of the “wonders of the waterways”, the Lune Aqueduct will take us 100 ft above the River Lune where we will have stunning views of the city and surrounding countryside. You will be able to get off on the aqueduct to take pictures or admire the view. It is an award winning wide-beamed luxury canal boat so there will be plenty of room to sit comfortably inside and outside (weather permitting) as we have our afternoon tea. The journey takes about 2 hours through some stunning countryside. We will leave for home from here.
The total cost of the trip is £51.50 per person. This includes all coach travel, cruise and cream tea on the boat. Please send a £15 non-refundable deposit per person when booking. The coach will leave Shrewsbury at approximately 9am and return about 7pm. The exact timings will be confirmed 7 days before travel.
